Ruth Barron (Winslet) returns to Australia still a member of an Indian
cult; her family hire PJ (Keitel) to "deprogramme" her.
Given the premise, leads and director, it should have been a very
interesting movie. But it's let down by a weak performance from Keitel
(initially reminiscent of his "Winston Wolf" Pulp Fiction
brain-fixer persona), as well as irritating "comic"
relatives and a failure to explore PJ's romantic attachments, past and
present (Pam Grier in a sadly wasted role). Only Winslet's performance
stops the whole thing completely collapsing. An unfulfilled
opportunity.
