Enormously successful ensemble comedy that weaves several stories
into an entertaining whole. Martin and Steenburgen are the parents of
confusing numbers of small children, and Martin, who hates his job, is
bordering on mid-life crisis. He also has to contend with his wife's
single-parent sister (Wiest) whose punk daughter (Plimpton) has
moved in her drag-racer boyfriend (Reeves) and whose son (Phoenix) is a
porno-watching vandal. Then Martin's black sheep brother returns
with his son, and family loyalties are called into question over three
generations. Very witty, but also very wise.
