Not Reeves' first film, but his first starring role, as a
geetar-playing teenager whose high-achiever best friend and
band-mate commits suicide for no reason in the first five minutes of the
film. Reeves is left to hold the band together, and deals with the angst
by smashing up his friend's room with his guitar. The
"record" of the title punningly refers to the song Reeves
writes with the band, which, the closing credits tell us, becomes a
Number One hit. We liked the song, and the long-haired Reeves was a sign
of wet dreams to come.
