This film about the Balkan conflict is as confusing as the war, but
excellent performances and assured direction keep you gripped when
the plot thickens. A monk shelters a young girl in his cell and then
escapes with her; a photo editor's (Cartlidge) husband is shot as she is
attempting to leave him for her lover; and her lover, a war
photographer, returns to his Balkan village, and gets involved in the
shooting of the girl who had escaped to the monastery. The loop of cause
and effect demonstrates the inter-twined nature of all lives. Deeply
moving.
