American Psycho
Originally released: 2000
Great décor, shame about the people. Which pretty much sums up the 1980s. And this movie, which indulges in the decade's worst excesses. Ostensibly, it's a satire, but, when you're watching Patrick Bateman (Christian Bale) fuck a prostitute up the arse to Phil Collins while admiring himself in the mirror, it's not a satire. It's disgusting. Bale and Mary Harron, the writer/director, devoted years to getting the film made. Why? And why Reese Witherspoon? The food in the opening scene looks great, but by the end of the movie, you'll be glad you hadn't eaten. One for the freaks.
