Immediately dismissed by critics who seemed indignant at its
unexpected box office success in the US, this is essentially a mediocre
thriller but it has two or three redeeming assets. One is certainly
Ashley Judd, one of the most elegant and alluring actresses around, who
is fine as the wife framed for her husband's murder and set on revenge.
Another is its nicely itinerant feel, with some particularly good
sequences in New Orleans towards the end. Director Bruce Beresford is
away from his home turf here, but his execution is never less than
watchably competent.
