The most potent representation of psychological fugue ever filmed,
Lost Highway throbs and pulsates under the weight of Lynch's unabashed
exploration of a man unhinged, propelling us into murder, lust and
schizophrenic nightmare. Fred Madison (Pullman) is sentenced to
death row after unknowingly killing his wife, but before sentence is
executed, transmogrifies into garage mechanic Pete (Getty), who is
released and pursues gangster's moll Arquette (who also plays the
wife). The second section is unusually self-reflexive and heightens
the fantasy element of the change. Dark, dank and deeply inspired.
