Broadcast News
Originally released: 1987
James L Brooks is a funny guy who makes funny movies. He is also very insightful and this kaleidoscopic examination of TV news jabs at the funny bone while also stroking the cerebellum. Holly Hunter is the news producer dynamo who falls for vacuous anchor man William Hurt, ignoring the obvious devotion of razor sharp Albert Brooks, who just cannot stop sweating when he's on camera. Witty, acerbic and touchingly humane, it succeeds on almost every level, but is ultimately a bit long and thus lets its vibrancy ebb. Hunter was never less annoying though.
