Jean-Marc who? Despite a skinny CV, Barr is a man to be reckoned with. His
directorial debut Lovers (Dogme 5) was one of the highlights of the 1999
Edinburgh Film Festival - surprising, since he started out as
eye-candy in Luc Besson's Le Grand Bleu. In between swimming with
dolphins and shagging Rosanna Arquette, his soulful performance
proved he was more than a pretty face. But it was co-star Jean Reno who
rode the fame tide to Hollywood. Barr's other major role, in Lars Von
Trier's Europa, seemed to damn him to art-house obscurity. But he's
back, and he's film-fest material again, making quintessentially
French films with a grungy twist.
