After playing Roy Dillon, the emotionally disturbed confidence
trickster in The Grifters, Cusack held all the cards to take the big
budget blockbuster route to megastardom. Instead, he's stayed true to
his non-conformist principles, choosing roles in films which sit well
with his conscience and left wing politics. He's also focused on
working with good people - Stephen Frears, Woody Allen, John Sayles and
Tim Robbins among them. The formation of his own company, New Crime
Productions (responsible for Grosse Pointe Blank and High Fidelity),
was inevitable. This charismatic actor will be around for some time
yet.
