Handsome adaptation of Peter Carey's quirky novel, tracing the lives
of two Victorian compulsive gamblers who meet, fall in love, and
conceive an impractical scheme involving a glass church. Fiennes hams
it up horribly, making it hard to care about his character, but the film
is otherwise solidly directed, with Blanchett completely convincing
as ever.
