Well, yes. It was bound to disappoint expectations. Now, clear of both
hype and backlash, Phantom Menace is revealed as a film of gaping holes
and spurious logic filled with wooden, stilted acting and stereotyped
characterisation. It is also brimming with eye-popping visual
effects the like of which have never been seen, a pulse-racing pod race
to wake you up at the midpoint and an absolutely cracking last half hour
that contains a scintillatingly operatic light sabre battle. It ain't
great, but it's not the pile of crap that many would have you believe.
