Star Wars
Originally released: 1977
The movie that spawned a generation of geeks, addicts and quasi-religious zealots was also the film that revolutionised Hollywood's Special Effects and lit the touch-paper of a new commercial fire that's still burning today. A mishmash hybrid of myth, western, Kurosawa and Joseph Campbell, it somehow manages to be a joy - pure and absorbing, visually mind-blowing, the quintessential slice of space opera that defined a generation. It gave us Harrison Ford. And the best John Williams Oscar-winning score EVER! What more could anyone ask? May the force be with you.
