As 'Benny Blanco from the Bronx' in Carlito's Way, Leguizamo staked a
claim on Pacino's turf; as Tybalt in Romeo + Juliet, he ate Leo DiCaprio
alive. There's a magnificent arrogance to the way his lips curl back, a
preening cockiness in the swagger with which he wears his clothes; the
short-fuse aggression of the small man gleams in his eyes. And yet Spike
Lee brought out a softer, more confused character in Summer Of Sam,
likeable in spite of his many flaws, and very human. You can only wonder
what he'll he do with Toulouse Lautrec in Baz Luhrmann's Moulin Rouge.
