Lukas Moodysson
Born: 1969
Scandinavia's young pretender, Moodysson reckons himself a bit of a rebel genius, and has given the finger to the Swedish Academy for failing to recognise him as such (they gave their prizes to Roy Andersson instead). His first feature, Fucking Amal (internationally distributed as Show Me Love, for some reason), was a huge hit in Sweden and a minor festival and arthouse success abroad. A feelgood lesbian coming out comedy, it showcased his ability to get natural, likeable performances from his cast - on display again in his follow-up, Together. Still, he's no Bergman, and certainly no Andersson; probably the closest recent equivalent is Soren Kragh-Jacobsen's Mifune.
