Berlin, 1944. Everything is falling apart. When Jewish lesbian resistance worker Felice Schragenheim meets Lily Wust, wife of a Nazi officer and uber-mother, passion erases danger - and Lily is caught up in Felice's world of lesbian parties and false identities. It's Brief Encounter in Technicolour, Cabaret without the songs, an erotic, tragic dance around the documented lives of Felice and Lily. Farberbock lets two great actresses, joint winners of a Silver Bear at Berlin, burn up the screen, all the more on fire for the film's awareness of the history and politics that will casually destroy them.
