A Coppola who changed his name to escape uncle Francis's shadow, Cage
has always been his own man. His unique hangdog features and scruffy
charisma served him well in a series of off-kilter indie hits - Raising
Arizona, Wild At Heart - before he reinvented himself as an action hero
in the likes of Con Air. It hardly stretched him, but even slugging it out
to save the world, he was always quirkier than the average tough guy.
With that under his belt, he could probably pick any work he wanted -
which makes his recent choices (8mm? Family Man??) all the more
depressing.
