The only female director 'hard' enough to be involved with Four Rooms,
Allison Anders suffered like Room-mates Tarantino and Rodriguez, and
disappeared. The sly humour and vivid humanity of her slot echoes her
back catalogue, all concerned with the mysteries of the human heart,
particularly teenage girls'. New film Sugar Town is a satire on the
Hollywood music business, critically acclaimed but invisible.
Knowing Anders' talent for combining sharp scripts, perfect location
design and favours from famous friends (see appearances from Shawn
Colvin and Peter Fonda among others in Grace Of My Heart) it was probably
only too accurate.
