The film after which Quentin Tarantino named his production company,
and you can see why. On the surface, it's a crime caper revolving around a
romantic triangle of outsiders - a naïve Anna Karina and two
suburban would-be toughs - but Godard is more interested in the small
talk and little manoeuvres that his characters engage in, between
brief bursts of action. It's memorable for some fabulous moments - a
minute of silence, a synchronised dance (which Hal Hartley's clearly
studied), a record-breaking dash around the Louvre - and cheeky film
jokes, like the director styling himself Jean-Luc Cinema Godard.
