After the Oscar-nominated triumph of Amores Perros, with its mixture
of ambition and accessibility, Hollywood is predictably sniffing
around Mexican director Inarritu; he has recently signed with the
agency that handles the Coen brothers and PT Anderson. His success is
all the more remarkable because Amores Perros was his first film. He was
a DJ before he was a director, and his background shows in the way he mixes
multiple story-lines and images, spinning variations on themes like a
hip-hop remixer. His next script, he says, is about fertility
treatments; should be one to watch.
