The Mexican
Originally released: 2001
It's a screen combination that has you willing it to work. Brad plays Jerry, the kinda guy you just wanna hug, paying off his dues to the mob with one last job. Julia is his ditzy girlfriend. James Gandolfini (better known as Tony Soprano) is the hood tasked with kidnapping Julia as insurance that Brad sees the job through. But despite laudable performances - especially Gandolfini - some lovely shots of Mexico, and a lime green VW beetle, this saccharine film is lacking spice, fatally flawed by poor writing. Did no one shout "Re-write, senor, por favor"? Snort some salt, squeeze lemon in your eye, and slug a tequila before viewing.
