Licence To Kill
Originally released: 1989
The first offering to not even be loosely on an Ian Fleming story, Dalton’s swansong as Bond pits him against stock bad guy Robert Davi’s drug lord, in a revenge tale that sees Bond’s eponymous licence revoked (the original and better title). Dalton is terrific in a grittier (rated 15), more violent tale, with superior love interest (a feisty Cary Lowell) and more action for the delightful Desmond Llewellyn as Q. Gladys Knight’s song is franchise best. The public really should have shown Dalton more faith - he didn’t return. A return to form (and look out for a young, skinny Benicio Del Toro as a henchman).
