Emblematic of Roger Moore’s tenure as Bond: big, bloated and bad. Even a
wittily concocted henchman like the metal-toothed Jaws (Kiel) can't
help raise this above the level of camp travelogue, and the Lotus
submarine is wasted. Marvin Hamlisch’s music is terribly 1970s and has
dated very badly, while director Lewis Gilbert seems to sleep his way
through the whole affair. Barbara Bach, Mrs Ringo Starr, is the double
agent love interest and the now par-for-the-course big set is an
underwater hideout that hosts a submarine showdown. About as crass as
Bond can get.
