Diamonds Are Forever
Originally released: 1971
Carry On Bond, more like. Connery was bribed back to the fray and is clearly taking the piss. The Las Vegas setting and diamond-smuggling plot are pure hokum, while Charles Gray’s Blofeld appears to getting ready for The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Girlie assassins Bambi and Thumper nearly beat Bond up and buxom Jill St John sasses her way through the whole, sparkly nonsense. The series was clearly ready and waiting for the super smirk of Roger Moore. Still, Shirley Bassey’s song is a corker.
