You Only Live Twice
Originally released: 1967
Connery is beginning to look tired by this point - and it's not just his gut that's a bit flabby. The production values of this 'Bond goes to the Orient' are so massive that Connery at times dwindles into insignificance, particularly against Ken Adams's superb volcano hideout set. It does boast a franchise highlight in an incredible aerial shot showing Bond kicking many butts atop a warehouse, but overall proceedings are definitely sub-Thunderball, let alone sub-Goldfinger. Donald Pleasence is worth waiting for as the reptilian Blofeld, but it's a very long wait for him.
