This is where the constituent elements of the Bond franchise began to
outweigh the films themselves. Here, Connery looks slightly lost and
bemused by the size and scope of the globe-trotting and the length and
breadth of the underwater action sequences (and also how his wig stays
on). There’s nothing wrong with Terence Young’s film, it’s just that a
blueprint is now clearly in place. Who cares when you've got Connery,
sharks, bikinis, Tom Jones belting out the title song, John Barry
accompanying the expansive action and an absurd climactic boat chase?
