The Bond purists' favourite, Connery's second outing is even tighter
and leaner than Dr No, much more of a pot-boiling thriller than any other
film in the series. Lotte Lenya is terrifically creepy as chief
villainess Rosa Klebb, and Robert Shaw is wonderfully impassive as the
heavy. Both are members of SPECTRE, who steal a coding device in an
elaborate ruse to capture James Bond, using the delicious Daniela
Bianchi as further bait. A very low key entry by today’s standards, but a
delightfully pure and very 1960s thriller, which foregrounds
Connery's physicality.
