This is rather edgier than the suburban psycho-thriller it was trailed
as. Bridges, a university lecturer in terrorism, begins to suspect
that his neighbours (Robbins and Cusack) are up to no good, but he has a
hard time getting anyone to believe him. Despite numerous
illogicalities, there are some cleverly subversive ideas bubbling
away here. Could the notion of a single agent – made infamous by the
Unabomber – be a way of blinding society to a more systematic threat,
from a larger section of its members? Anyone who’s seen The Parallax
View won’t be caught completely unawares by the twist, but it’s a tense,
potent rehash all the same.
