It took only a year to move from the black & white amphetamine rush of
A Hard Day's Night to the trippy technicolour of Help! The second
Beatles film reflects the rapid changes of the 1960s: though the plot's
as perfunctory as ever, our heroes are now madcapping around the world,
not just Britain; the humour is much more druggy; and though Lester
keeps things ticking along, there's none of the sense of innocent
discovery - of an era opening up - that keeps A Hard Day's Night so fresh.
