Mighty Aphrodite
Originally released: 1995
Did anyone else think this film sucked? Just me? Well, consider yourself warned. Allen plays a nebbish – first surprise – with a far too beautiful wife (Carter) – second surprise – who can’t conceive a child. Allen and Carter adopt a baby, and Allen becomes neurotic – third surprise – about discovering the baby’s parentage. He finds Sorvino. She’s a hooker but he’s convinced he can find her hidden (intellectual) talents. They fall in love. Quel surprise. Oh, and there’s a Greek chorus. Hence the pretentious title.
