Summer Of Sam is set in New York during the summer of 1977, when a brutal
serial killer was taunting the police and media with notes signed 'Son
of Sam' - but it's in no way a serial killer thriller. Instead, it's a
sensitive exploration of the lives of some Italian-American New
Yorkers, turned upside down over the summer. Spike Lee often gets
lambasted by critics for his lack of subtlety and overtly political
message; but this is a film that presents the scene and characters, and
lets the audience draw their own conclusions.
