Set It Off
Originally released: 1996
Girlz N The Hood. Stony (Pinkett) gets fired from her bank job, Frankie (Fox) sees her brother shot, Cleo (Latifah) is out to protect her sisters, and impress her girlfriend. With Stony’s inside knowledge, they plan bank jobs to get them out of the poverty cycle. Violent, but not mindlessly so, these girls could whup not only Thelma and Louise’s ass, but all the Washingtons, Snipes and Smiths of this world too. Underwood is typecast as Stony’s preppy love interest, and the movie works best when it’s girlz together, singing, stomping and shooting off at the mouth.
