Bamboozled
Originally released: 2000
Pierre Delacroix (Wayans) is an African-American TV producer, disillusioned by his network's failure to make serious drama about black people. In a bid to get fired, he proposes the most outrageous idea imaginable - to revive 'blackface' minstrel shows - but to his horror, the proposal is gleefully picked up by his white boss Dunwitty (Rapaport). Spike Lee's satire on racism in the media is none too subtle, but makes its points powerfully, especially in the closing montages. You won't find the nuanced complexity of Do The Right Thing here; but if you're after passionate, politically engaged cinema that's unafraid to confront you, Lee's still got it.
