Quietly enjoyable update of a George Eliot novel about the
relationship between an orphan and her adopted father. Martin writes
and acts a little out of his usual pond, although the LA locations are
familiar from My Blue Heaven and LA Story. He revives the genial father
character from Parenthood, and latches onto Hollywood’s guy plus cute
kid trend (Leon, Kolya) – interesting, but unsuccessful.
