Either Roeg's most audacious moment, or an incomprehensible mess.
Eureka is the story of a man (Hackman) who strikes it lucky early in life,
and spends the rest of his days wondering what to do with his gold. But
this isn't a simple morality tale; it's some sort of cosmic vision,
overlaid with voodoo, cabbala and Roeg's own unique world-view -
something like what Terry Gilliam aspires to, but far, far stranger.
There are moments when it all makes sense - eureka! - and then it slips
through your fingers, like fine gold dust.
