A nasty, frenetic crime flick which turns into a nasty, frenetic
vampire flick half way through (but stupidly failed to keep that a
secret in its publicity). It’s a lame-brained but pretty enjoyable
shoot-em-up with a better cast than it needs (Keitel, in particular).
Rodriguez and Tarantino clearly had fun making it, but the latter’s
sour, unappealing screen presence gives it the whiff of an adolescent
vanity project. Clooney, though, (in his first major film role) has
some snappy moments, and there’s satisfyingly meaty carnage doled out
in the last half-hour.
