Madden has established himself as a safe pair of hands for increasingly
sumptuous period dramas. He's brought in crowd-pleasing versions of
Victoriana (Mrs. Brown), Shakespeare (Shakespeare In Love) and World
War Two (Captain Corelli's Mandolin) - offering tiny tweaks on
tradition (the bard in a blue biker jacket), but no major innovations.
It's hard to say much more about him; other than a solid, old-school BBC
craftsmanship, there's nothing particularly distinctive about his
work.
