Splurging out 40 films in his first decade as a director, Takashi is one
of Japan's most energetic new talents. He likes to take pulpy genre
material and fuck with it. Dead Or Alive is a gangster film pushed into
orbit; Audition is body horror exploding from the carcass of a family
drama. There's something of the rebellious schoolboy about his
gleeful monstrosity, but there's no doubt he's got an eye. Very
recently discovered in the West, he's only just gained the power to call
his own shots, develop his own material from scratch. Who knows what
he'll do with it?
