Misery
Originally released: 1990
Dark, dank and delicious adaptation of Stephen King's nasty novel about an author (James Caan - piteous) who is held and tortured by an obsessive fan (Kathy Bates - Oscar-winningly cuckoo). The surprise is that this dour, blue-grey toned film is directed by Rob Reiner, and very scary it is too. The nasty atmosphere promises horrific goings-on long before they actually appear, and the film leaves you with some interesting conundrums to ponder. More proof that King's work makes better movies than books.
