When Harry Met Sally
Originally released: 1989
Famous for the faked-orgasm diner scene, Rob Reiner's relationship comedy bubbles along propelled by Nora Ephron's nicely prickly script and the Crystal/Ryan crackerjack double act. The pinnacle of Crystal's schtick, it's an insightful and consistently laugh-out-loud film, with career highs for all concerned. The patter-style dialogue and Harry Connick Jr music are reminiscent of Woody Allen, and the tone is bittersweet, leaning towards sweet for the rewardingly slushy finale. Great support from the under-used Kirby and the immortal Fisher as the ubiquitous best friends.
