The Playhouse
Originally released: 1921
A short, plotless, film set in Keaton's vaudeville birthplace, which uses tricks to create the illusion of Buster playing all the actors, members of the orchestra and audience simultaneously. He gets caught out by the same trick by two apparently identical actresses and a series of stage-based funnies evolves, including a troupe of Zouaves. Quite a strange film that may have depended on his distorted memories of childhood, The Playhouse involves less acrobatics than usual - Keaton had broken his leg during filming of The Electric House.
