Angels in trench coats fill the skies of Berlin, constantly watching
human lives, but denied the power to participate. One of them (Ganz)
falls to earth, exchanging immortality for the chance of love.
Multi-textured photography, a hypnotic script based on Rilke's
poetry and a soundtrack featuring Laurie Anderson and Nick Cave all
come together to deliver a cinematic experience little short of
miraculous. Forget the Hollywood re-make City of Angels or Wenders'
own attempted sequel Faraway, So Close; this is the genuine article.
