Another misfit movie where Depp plays the innocent. Here, he’s a
wilfully dumb cutie who does a mean Buster Keaton. His quirky social
habits soon attract Joon (Masterton), one of those guileless young
women with whom Hollywood has a fascination (see also Jodie Foster in
Nell, Milla Jovovich in The Fifth Element). Her over-protective
brother Benny (Quinn) has put his life on hold for her, and can’t quite
believe that two slightly wrong people could get it right. It will stay
with you if only because the credits tune is the Proclaimers’ catchy hit
One Thousand Miles.
