Gilliam's attempt to set the Arthurian myth in New York. Like many of his
films, if you go with it, it'll transport you; if you don't, it'll seem
like self-indulgent nonsense. Bridges plays a DJ who is unwittingly
responsible for Williams' fall into the gutter, where the two meet and
embark on a half-baked plan to reclaim the Grail, and thereby their
lives. No doubt it's romantic and over-ambitious - but are these such
exalted times that we can turn our noses up at romance and ambition? Of
modern directors, only Boorman explores this territory with as much
conviction.
