The road to movie hell is paved with good pitches. Not that 'cheerleader
destined to kill vampires' sounds like a good pitch. Swanson was the
original bimbo-with-a-stake in this disastrous summer stinker.
Sutherland, as her Watcher, and Hauer as the Vampire Master, both
labour under the poor direction of first-timer Kuzui. Occasional
sparks of Joss Whedon's brilliance shine through in the dialogue
between Buffy and her friends, including an early big-haired
appearance by Swank, and in Swanson’s feisty performance – even
feistier when you consider that Hauer wanted full nudity for the bed
scene. Yes, it’s that bad.
