Kate Ashfield is becoming a name in Britflicks. Having starred
opposite Aidan Gillen in The Low Down, she has several films stocked for
2001. In Saul Metzstein’s disappointing Late Night Shopping, she
plays one of a collective of Mcjobbers; then there's London gangland
picture The Last Minute by Blade director Stephen Norrington. Whether
it's film or TV (including A Many Splintered Thing and Sky's Do Or Die),
and regardless of a production's merits or failures, Ashfield has
consistently been the best thing about whatever she's in.
Stylistically naturalistic, she never plays it big, even when
melodrama's required. Whatever the character, hers is a charm that
creeps up on you.
