Molina's forte is clammy awkwardness. Big, fleshy, sweaty: no-one's
better at playing the bumbling fool who might one day crack and consume
the world with the blackness that's been building up inside him. This
was precisely his part in Prick Up Your Ears, where he acted Gary Oldman
off the screen. Few are strong enough to do that, and if movies were more
about performance than glamour, it might have been Molina now who had
his pick of Hollywood baddies. Instead of which, he's had to content
himself with a career in supporting parts, forever on the fringes.
