So Dungeons And Dragons sucked, but I still get a little shiver thinking
about Jeremy Irons as Sonny von Bulow (Reversal Of Fortune). I get a
bigger shiver contemplating his Humbert Humbert (Lolita). Critics
hummed and erred. Irons gives a stunning performance of a man for whom
morals are aesthetic. He finds the ridiculous in Humbert, making him
pathetic without ever stooping. The same can't be said of his
shoe-polish hair patriarch in The House Of The Spirits. Odd to think
that your mum had a crush on him in Brideshead Revisited. Listen to that
voice in The Lion King. Shivers, right?
