Cameron's exemplary structural discipline springs a leak in this
watery yarn about underwater deep-core drillers stumbling across
friendly aliens while a gang of Navy SEALS run amok with nuclear
warheads tucked in their belts. The characterisation is already
taking on water when we meet the core-couple of Ed Harris and Mary
Elizabeth Mastrantonio, but the crew's friendly banter is forced and
pat. Only Biehn's stir crazy SEAL works properly, and he's just a plot
device. Once the aliens appear, it's all over too quickly and easily to
give them any credibility, and you're left wondering what happened.
