Over 1/4 of an hour's extra footage is included in this completist's
version of Cameron's superior sequel. But editions of this nature are a
double-edged sword - the new material adds depth and context to
Ripley's maternal attachment to Newt and hikes up the action with added
technology - but it reduces the tension and slows the pace. So it depends
on why you watch Aliens as to whether this is a redundant, flabby
variation or a textured addition with nuggets to spare. Regardless,
the film is still terrific.
